Now with widescreen flat panel

Permalink 2006-09-18 20:51, by jaervosz, Categories: General, Universe/English

Earlier today my brand new Dell 2007WFP arrived. It's a nice 20" flat screen panel and the picture quality is really good.

Only downside so far was that I had to go back to the old proprietary nvidia drivers to get Kaffeine to play anything in 1680x1050 resolution. Though apparently this also means that xv is working when I rotate the screen :-) Though this can cause Kaffeine to get somewhat confused.

To get it working I had to add the following ModeLine to xorg.conf:

ModeLine "1680x1050" 119.0 1680 1728 1760 1840 1050 1053 1059 1080

For more information about how to setup widescreen panels see HOWTO Widescreen Resolutions (WSXGA).

Is this the bug you see with xv in the opensource driver ?

No, the error message was something like "BadAlloc (insufficient resources for operation)".
But according to http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=47755 the fix might be to add "Option "XaaNoOffscreenPixmaps"" to xorg.conf, though I haven't tried it yet.
