Mouse scroll wheel problem with Trendnet KVM partly solved

Permalink 2006-12-07 18:57, by jaervosz, Categories: General, Universe/English

For a long time I've been sharing my nice Dell 2007WFP monitor with my girlfrind. I bought a cheap Trendnet KVM switch to change between our respective workstations. It's been working out almost perfect, apart from a small problem. When I changed from Linux to Windows and then back again I lost the scroll wheel.

After some head banging and a lot of googling I installed xev and discovered that Xorg didn't even receive any events when I used the mouse wheel. From that point it took about a minute find a workaround. Simply unplugging and replugging the mouse from the KVM switch brings back life to the scroll whell. YAYH!

So much for cheap KVMs....

A decent (at least I thought it was decent) IO Gear KVM that I'd used in the past had the same problem switching between Linux and Windows workstations. An added benefit was the mouse skittering all over the screen instead of functioning at all normally.
