From time to time I use remote desktop access to do various stuff from my laptop. First I used FreeNX but later I migrated to x2go. After not having used it for approximately 6 months I tried to get it working today(now a few days ago). At first it would just hang indefinately trying to connect. It turns out that I now had to add a line to
%users ALL=(ALL) NOPASSWD: /usr/bin/x2gopgwrapper
After having done that full sessions worked like a charm again. Great!
However Single applications still failed, after a bit of digging I found the logfile on the x2goserver implicating SSP Stack Smashing Protection:
*** stack smashing detected ***: nxagent - terminated nxagent: stack smashing attack in function <unknown> - terminated
For now the simple workaround is to:
# gcc-config 4 * Switching native-compiler to x86_64-pc-linux-gnu-4.4.5-hardenednossp ... # . /etc/profile # emerge -v1 nx
Some applications still don't work in Single application mode however many does. This is also known as Gentoo Bug #369851.
